Community Guidelines

These guidelines are for everyone who runs or joins a group or community in TACENZA Chat, and for groups listed in Discover. They build on the acceptable use rules in the Terms of Service.

The rules

• Don’t break the law. Don’t use a group to share or organise anything illegal.
• Never harm children. Any content or behaviour that harms children is forbidden.
• Don’t harass, threaten or defraud people. That includes scams.
• Don’t spam. Not in groups, not through invite links, and not with bots.
• Don’t get around limits or into other accounts. Don’t try to overload the service, probe it, or use accounts that aren’t yours.
• Bots must say what they do in their description.

Groups you run

Owners and admins decide how their group works. TACENZA Chat gives them the tools to keep it in order:

• Roles and permissions. Give members roles, and decide who may post, send media, react, pin, invite, manage channels or manage members. A member can only act on members ranked below them.
• Invite links can expire, and can require approval before someone joins.
• Slow mode limits how often members can post.
• Moderation. Members with the right permissions can:
  • kick someone, which removes them;
  • ban someone, which removes them and stops them rejoining;
  • give a timeout, during which the member can read but not post;
  • send a warning, a private, encrypted message to the member.

Moderation actions are recorded in an encrypted audit log, which the server can’t read.

Discover

Listing a group in Discover makes its name, picture, description, tags and language public to everyone signed in, together with a join link. Members’ names are never listed.

For a listed group:

• The name, picture, description and tags must follow these guidelines, like everything else.
• Describe the group honestly. Don’t use a listing to mislead people into joining.
• Anyone who joins through the listing can only read what is sent after they join.

Usernames

Don’t choose a username to impersonate someone, to threaten or harass, or to mislead. Names that look like other names can’t be claimed.

Reporting

Anyone in a group can report messages. Your device sends the messages you choose to up to ten members of the group who may manage messages. Reports are end-to-end encrypted: the server can’t read them, and they go to the group’s moderators, not to TACENZA.

If a whole group, a bot or an account breaks these rules, or a group’s own moderators don’t act, you can tell us.

How we enforce this

Messages are end-to-end encrypted, so TACENZA can’t read them, and we don’t scan them. That shapes what we can do:

• We act on reports that people send us, which contain what they chose to share.
• We act on what is public: Discover listings, and usernames. We can remove a listing from Discover.
• We act on behaviour we can see, such as breaking rate limits. Automatic spam protection lowers how much an account can send; it never reads content.

Depending on what happened, we may remove a Discover listing, or suspend an account or a bot.
