Security and privacy
Built to know as little about you as possible
Privacy isn’t a setting or a paid extra. It’s how TACENZA is built – and where it has limits, they’re written down.
A username and a password
No phone number, no email address, no real name. The server never even learns your username – only a hash of it.
Encrypted on your device
Messages, files, profiles and group names are encrypted before they leave your device.
The server is blind
It stores ciphertext, hashes and public keys. It can’t read your messages, contacts, group names or bios.
No tracking
No analytics, no ads and no third-party requests in the apps. IP addresses are never written to disk.
Protected chats
Per chat: no copying or forwarding, an optional watermark, and screenshot blocking in the Windows app.
Honest about limits
Where something can’t be done privately, we say so – like the server knowing who is in which group.
Don’t take our word for it
For every release, our build pipeline publishes the SHA-256 of the app’s code on GitHub, apart from the servers that run TACENZA. Hash what your browser is served and compare.

What is TACENZA?
TACENZA makes private communication tools by CARTIQO: TACENZA Chat, an end-to-end encrypted messenger for chats, groups and communities, and TACENZA Mail, private email for people and teams, which is in development. An account needs only a username and a password.
What is TACENZA Chat?
An end-to-end encrypted messenger. It has one-to-one chats, groups with channels, roles and moderation, profiles, a public group directory, bots and live location. Messages are encrypted on your device before they leave it, so the server only ever stores ciphertext. More about Chat.
What is TACENZA Mail?
Private email for you, your team and your own domain, with shared addresses like support@ that can be assigned to team members, and optional zero-access encryption of stored mail. It’s in development: sign-up is built but not open yet. Email isn’t end-to-end encrypted, and we say so. What’s built so far.
Do I need separate accounts for Chat and Mail?
Today, yes: TACENZA Chat and TACENZA Mail have their own sign-in, because Chat’s account keys never leave your device. We’re building towards one TACENZA account for every product. Until then, each app has its own settings.
Is TACENZA free?
Yes. TACENZA Chat Free is fully usable and has the same privacy as every paid plan: 1 GB of storage, 2 devices, 1 bot and attachments up to 25 MB. Paid plans add capacity.
Do I pay for privacy?
No. Encryption, protected chats, disappearing messages and safety numbers are the same on Free. You pay for capacity – storage, devices, bots and larger attachments – and convenience.
How does privacy work?
Everything you send in TACENZA Chat is encrypted on your device, so the server stores ciphertext, hashes and public keys, and never learns your messages, group names, bios or contacts. There’s no analytics or tracking in the apps. Where something can’t be done privately, we say so. What the server stores.
What if I forget my password?
Use your recovery key. Your device makes it when you sign up and shows it once; with it you can set a new password yourself. Nobody can reset your password for you – not even TACENZA – because nobody else can open your account. Reset your password.
